PCD Conference, Paris 3rd - 4th February, 2009
ColorMatrix Group Inc. Presentation
In response to the Sustainable Development theme at this year's PCD Congress, plastic colorant and additive innovators ColorMatrix presented their new online colour match and delivery system - DosiXpress™ which they have designed to streamline the colour development process for plastics converters and their customers.
A more sustainable approach to colour development
ColorMatrix believe that the system is particularly beneficial for cosmetics packaging applications because of this market's increasing trend towards shorter production runs, more frequent colour changes, faster market access and a wider ranging of base material requirements and aesthetic solutions.
By accelerating the colour development process between converters and brand owners, ColorMatrix believe that their system will make significant time and efficiency savings. The ability for the system to offer any quantity that a customer requires for express delivery, in most cases within 24 hours, also means that any potential inventory and waste is also minimised.
How the system works:
There are 5 simple steps to using the system:
1. Select Match Parameters: Having logged on to the secure DosiXpress™ web site, the customer selects their relevant match criteria depending on the application they are matching for.
2. Perform the Match: Using a handheld Spectrophotometer the customer then measures the colour of the standard against a white and then a black background to achieve an accurate opacity measurement.
3. Evaluate Match Options: Details of up to 50 different colour match options are then shown on screen, from which the customer can make their optimum match selection based on their best colour vs. best cost requirement, generally dependent on their particular application.
4. Place Colour Order: Having selected their optimum match, the customer then places their sample or production order online. Full visibility of packaging and transportation costs is given and there are no limits on order quantities, minimum or maximum.
5. Product Delivery: Once the order is placed, the production process is initiated and the colour is produced, packaged and despatched for express delivery.
Future developments:
The system development is now commercially available and is being successfully used by a number of ColorMatrix customers. (Case study information can be provided).
Future developments of the system are to include:
• 3-D modelling for viewing colour matches that can be
linked to customers' CAD software
• A wider range of polymer types that the system can be used
with
• Availability of a wider range of special effect
colorants
In summary, the system can help Converters and Brand Owners in the
Cosmetics Packaging industry to achieve:
• A greater degree of control of their own colour development process
• A leaner, more efficient colour match and ordering process
• A more synchronised design process
• An accelerated response to their market's requirements
• The ability to match and order colour 24 hours/7 days a week
• Significant inventory, waste and efficiency savings
